Peter Dennee

Peter Dennee ’86 joined the Carthage faculty in 2005 teaching music education courses, education courses, and courses in the general curriculum of the college. He also serves as Director of the African Studies Program. He is a Fulbright Scholar having taught and completed field study research in and around Arusha, Tanzania in 2021.He is the former conductor of the Carthage Treble Choir, Carthage Chorale, and Lincoln Chamber Singers. He is associate editor of the 2016 choral textbook series Voices in Concert jointly published by McGraw-Hill and Hal Leonard.

Prior to his appointment at Carthage, Prof. Dennee held positions as assistant professor of music at West Virginia University and Susquehanna University, and visiting assistant professorships at the University of Colorado-Boulder and the University of Michigan. He taught music at elementary and secondary levels in Baltimore, Milwaukee, and Tempe, Arizona.

Choirs under Prof. Dennee’s leadership have performed at state, regional, and divisional conferences and on tours throughout the region, nationally, and internationally in Central Europe and China, and Tanzania. Prof. Dennee earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University, a Master of Music degree from The Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute, and a Bachelor of Arts from Carthage College.

Prof. Dennee has worked with the children’s choir at the Oonte Center for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Ondangwa, Namibia since 2010, and has produced the Oonte Choir’s CD “For We Are: Songs of Light, Love, and Hope” as a source of fundraising for the orphan center. He is active as a composer, arranger, clinician, and guest conductor.
